Discs say “resin pads only”
Discussion
I’ve just fitted a set of Shimano discs on the winter road bike. I’ve checked the pads and they are in fact resin but out of interest why is this and what would happen if I fit sintered or other non resin pads. Is it to do with braking efficiency, disc material, safety.
I have cable discs and in all honesty find them no better and in fact less feel than rim brakes. The bike came with them but I wouldn’t choose them again, guessing hydraulics are better.

Final posts on this thread suggest cheap (unhardened) rotors will wear unduly fast if used with non-resin pads

Uberbike provide a wide range of pad types, with a brief description of soft/hardness, wear characteristics etc. I've found their RaceMatrix to be a good compromise, though they can be very noisy in the wet. Who needs a bell?
