was about to bleed the brakes on newly bought bike (new for me) - well actually just try to Burp them by removing the top cover first as don't want to order/wait for those kits.
Had a bottle of dot4 fluid..until I saw written on the brakes - Mineral oil...

What oil do you HAVE to use for these? the brake model is tektro hdc330 , I see they sell some Red shimano mineral oil online.
Can you use just car engine oil as well or I have a bottle of some wilko cycle oil which I believe is mineral oil as well
https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-cycle-oil-100ml/...

Yes basically I want to be a cheapass and get the stuff done right now with what I have.
I suppose I should not try and top-up them with Dot4 stuff as it might fuk them up if they are not designed for that.

Yes don't put real brake fluid in the tektro ones (some mtb brakes do run on brake fluid however) as the seals etc will get damaged. The proper oil is only about £4 for enough to bleed the brakes serval times, unlike car fluids the colour makes no difference and can be mixed if mineral oil.

I have those brakes and use Tekro mineral oil, as I got it in a kit with the rest of the stuff needed to bleed the brakes. Do not use DOT 4!

Try http://www.epicbleedsolutions.com/ for brake oil and bleeding kits. Dead helpful and great service.

I’ve been using ATF in mine for years with no issues whatsoever, and it’s the same colour as Shimano, so obviously it is compatible.

Shimano or Tektro mineral oil is fine - if it's red/pink it's the same stuff anyway. You can buy a litre of the stuff for a tenner. I'd suggest buying more than the 100ml you get in the kits because once you start pumping the old stuff through, you'd be surprised how quickly you can get through it, especially if you've never done it before. And you absolutely should not reuse anything that comes out.

Don't use car brake fluid. I think it's a shade thicker - more viscous.
