In order to get fit again I've decided to give indoor riding a try. Reality is that now with my long commute and longer hours I don't get a real chance during the week to get out for 2+ hours therfore some intense late night training sessions will get me back to fitness.

My old Spesh Tarsmc is receiving a whole new drivetrain and components. I've been given the green light for a Tacx Flux. But I don't have a device to run Zwift..... My Samsung S8 won't do it as the Beta is locked down now. My iPad mini is too old, along with my iMac.... Wife has told me to bigger off if I want to hijack her iPhone X. But I do have a spare 40 " TV which the wife doesn't want in the house.... smile

So what to do?

Apple TV 4th gen = £150
Apple TV 4k = £200 (will the 4th gen cope)
iPad 9.7 = £320
iPhone xs = not an option till July next year.....

So what do you guys think? I don't need a new computer so that's not really an option. Don't really need an iPad but considering the Apple TV will sit in my garage only being used for Zwift that doesn't sound ideal either.....

Or am I kidding myself I need something with grunt to enjoy the Zwift experience.

There's only a differential of £50 between non 4k and 4k but even Apple don't state the performance/hardware differences .

So after some late night digging turns out the 4k box is 4x as powerful as the 4th gen and should be really known as the 5th gen... It's got the A10x chip... Anyway that's what is being bought tonight….

Ok finally last night I got everything set up in my garage and got 30 minutes in.

Firstly not what I was expecting and the Olympic course is blinken hard for a new cyclist!

Anyway, after I hopped off I was left wondering if I should unplug the Flux? I did; but do those who have this model or the Neo just leave it plugged in and permanently on?

Also worryingly I can't seem to log on with my email address or password on the companion app.... Think I must of typed it in wrong using the stupid Apple TV controller..... I'd like to get the companion app running tonight and complete a lap of a course.

I always turn mine off at the wall (both on my old Flux and my Neo).
It doesn't say anywhere that you have to, I just do it out of habit/good practice.

As for the companion app, just make sure the login is correct.

The trainer will probably go into standby mode after a while, but no harm in turning it off at the wall. I always forget and leave mine on, but I have to turn it off and on again before I use it, otherwise the magnets don't initialise properly.

It's a bit counter-intuitive to find, but hidden in the settings menu once you're actually in-game is a "Trainer Difficulty" setting. It doesn't mean your avatar will go any faster or slower, but it means that there will be less resistance per % of gradient. So you shouldn't run out of gears.
