I'm after some opinions from some more cycle-aware people than me. Since starting a new job, I commute 16 miles a day by bike, all on road. I'm using a 10 year old Carrera subway hybrid, which has received some severe abuse but has been bombproof.
The cycle to work scheme my employer use is Halfords. I know there's a lot of anti-halfords feeling about, but the experience I've had with the Carrera has been great. I want to spend under 550. I want a road bike this time round - the route is great and I'm enjoying a few longer leisure rides.

I'm down to options - a Carrera vanquish disc for 425 or I spend 550 and go for the Boardman 8.6. I've had a look at both and think Boardman is noticeably better put together. I can't find any reviews of the Boardman yet, as I think it's fairly new.

Interested to know if people think the Boardman is worth the extra cash - I'm not hugely aware of bike technology!

I think the Boardman is a nicer bike.
Those mechanical brakes will need constant adjustment on the Carrera. Only hydraulic disks are self adjusting. Good rim brakes are better than poor disks.

That Boardman is worth the money.
