Steel Road bike
Discussion
Hi all,
Signed up to do London to Brighton (next week) and have been bitten by the bug already signed up for my next sportive
I bought a Specialized Allez 2015 off Facebook but I think its a size too small as I was getting neck pain from tilting up to look forward so had to put a stem riser on there.
I'm thinking I can easily sell this bike for what I bought it for and get a a new one in end of season sale.
I'd like to build up to do a few longer rides/tours so I think I'm looking at a steel bike, with endurance geometry that's fairly light (under 10kg), can take a slightly larger tyre if required, disc brakes and option to stick some sort of rack on maybe?!?!
Is this an impossible wish list from one bike??

Check out the Genesis Equilibrium Disk. You might need to do a custom build with the frameset to get exactly what you want though.
Thanks for suggestion - looks great.Harpoon said:
Do you have a budget to work to?
Ideally about 1k - can push to around £1500 region if needed. Had also been looking at the Surely Straggler, but climbing - oh my days, tough!!! So would prefer to keep it light if poss!!!

You're making decisions based on incomplete knowledge - you need to understand properly why you have neck pain / what bike size you require and what geo suits you best before dropping £1500 on a new bike.
Given that you're not too far away, suggest booking a new bike consultation here;

(Other fitting services are available) Was £75 when i did it a couple of years back, may have changed, but well worth it IMO
Genesis make great frames/bikes for long distance riding, Croix de Fer is worth looking at, and if you are brave and don't give a hoot what others think ditch the racing bars and your neck pain will disappear for good. I built a titanium Croix de Fer, fitted a Sram 1 X 11 on the back , Sram Guide Ultimate hydraulic discs and a Jones H Loop handlebar, tyres are 28mm Pro One tubeless, I can climb anything and ride from dawn til dusk with no complaints from my 60 year old body!

Yeah that. Although your list of requirements does sound sensible, a bike fit will help you understand exactly what geo frame to buy.Barchettaman said:

I don't want to hijack the thread but here they are! There are loads of hand positions, firstly the grips keep your wrists in a neutral position, then move your hands over the brakes and hook your thumbs into the loop, then there's the rear loop, then the front loop plus you can then hold the front loop and drop your wrists onto the rear loop for an aero position. They were comfy from the word go and my first ride was a 6 hour! With the fuel tank on the top tube and an Alpkit caddy hung on the loop I am self sufficient in Jelly Babies and cake bars.Those H-Loop bars look bloody awesome!
