My bike is covered on my house insurance but I think that's only for theft while it's in the house. I would like cover for accidental damage (eg the event of a crash!) as well as theft if I'm out and about. Any recommendations on companies etc to use? I also need to make a spreadsheet or something with all of the modifications made to it and tot up the total cost (that'll be pretty scary!!) because the bike has had a fair few changes (wheels, saddle, pedals, power meter, light mounts, cassette etc etc). I suspect the total value to be approx £7k eek

Many thanks in advance.

I use yellow jersey at the min. Covers my expensive triathlon bike and wetsuit, Garmins etc. It's not cheap though. Cost more than they insurance on my s6 did. I claimed this year for event cancellation. They dragged their heels a bit, suppose hoping I would forget, but in the end paid without question.

A friend recommended Pedal Cover. They provide buildings contents and bikes all in one package. Seem very reasonable price wise. The policy wording was a little unclear. When I asked about wetsuit cover etc they said that it was covered but I could find nothing in the documents.

Yellow Jersey sent my renewal this week and you get a 25% discount on year 2 so I'll probably stick with them

Pedalcover here. My premium even went down slightly last year.

Bikmo for me.
Pay about £20 a month for about 5k worth of cover, including three wheelsets, my Garmin and some other kit.

VeloSure for me - 3rd year and they’ve been great in terms of dropping the price each year as I build up “NCB”.

Customer Services were very helpful when I changed the policy mid year too.

Thank you everyone. Based on recommendations from here and elsewhere I've gone with bikmo. I have insured my nice bike for £6500 with a total of £7500 which includes my commuter hack. They have a seemingly pretty comprehensive cover. I've uploaded photos of the bike and receipts etc on their website/portal thing too smile

Many thanks for the help smile

Pedalcover here. Unlimited bike cover - home and abroad, accident etc and all included in the house cover ...which went down. Also they don't need you to follow any daft rules like locking your bike up if it's in the garage. Only one I have to follow is having an extra lock if it's on the bike rack on the car.

£10k worth of bikes here and it made no difference to the price.

Bikmo was costing me a few hundred a year for the bikes alone and the Pedalcover policy is pretty much on par with that.

Another for Pedalcover here. I've never had to claim, but the policy certainly seems very comprehensive, they're really nice people if you phone them up for whatever reason, and the amount I save by not buying specialist bike insurance is probably enough to buy a decent bike every three years or so anyway!

Thing I liked was that they want to speak with you to chat things through and answer any questions before you sign up. We were taking the bikes down to France and needed to know about cover etc. I spent a good 10 minutes asking questions and it became obvious they were cyclists themselves and built a policy that they would want (I know it is a front end to someone else).

We went from paying around £400 a year with Bikmo for just 2 of our bikes and £500 house and contents to just under £480 for the lot with Pedalcover for all 5 of our bikes wherever they are or what happens to them.

That's pretty much exactly my experience.

They also took the time to go through all the "are your window locks Kite marked with integral defensive fire dragon" type bks questions telling me the difference in policy price if I went for the worst option. In the end, ticking the worst option for everything only increased the cost of the policy by something like £12 year, so I went for that just to avoid he risk of the insurer (AXA) trying to weasel out of paying.
