There's a guy who's just joined our group and he has the habit of continually weaving, only by inches each way but it makes riding with him really tricky.

It has been mentioned to him and he now knows he's doing it as he can see what we're saying to him and he is trying to stop it but doesn't know how.

He seems to be rolling his shoulders which goes straight to the bars, he's tried relaxing his elbows a little but no benefit.

Anyone any ideas on what's causing the weave and possible exercises to correct it.

The guys I see who seem to weave often have then knees pointing outwards, kind of almost bow legged. Could it be a core strength issue? Maybe a few situps would help him?

Easily done, but not the point, we’re an inclusive club biggrin

Knees and reach to bars, ie too far away to have proper control.

Have you explained the dangers of riding like that in a group, some just aren't aware how easy it is to bring a load of people down when riding like that.

As a club we have a simple hints and tips list for riding in a group, no half wheeling, keep to you line etc. Sounds a bit militant at first but actually it's for everyone's safety and enjoyment.

Bike fit would be a good starting point to understand how he moves in relation to the bike and if he's set up.

Knees out sounds like his saddle is too low for a starter.

Cheers all, he's going to go for a proper bike fit and see what they say. (as well as try to go straight up and down with legs and control core)

Is he focussing far enough ahead down the road, I find if I am looking down just ahead of the bike I am a bit more 'wobbly'

I bet he always rides on the hoods as well, sounds like a shorter stem with some lift on it might help, he is probably riding a bit too stretched out and hasn't got the core strength, a bike fit might make it worse as they tend to concentrate on getting riders more aero which I bet will make him even less stable. Unfortunately it isn't helped by the current crop of 'compact geometry' racing bikes with short wheelbase that seem to be de rigueur for club coffee and cake runs these days !! smile
