Why ?

1) heavier
2) who wants vague feeling as to what your wheels are up to when youre used to being stung on your ride?
3) its gotta be some kind a fashion thing - i see no massive comfort difference between my 25 and 28 bar pressures
4) This is gravel bike territory - dont buy into fads
5) man up and take the abuse a 23/25 gives you
6) did i mention weight ?!

More comfort and less rolling resistance?

I was with you up to point 3. You ride 25s? What manner of ride 25s? That's pretty much a full-sus bike. They've massively heavier than 23s, which are OK for grandmas, or 20s, which are ok for grandads. I hope you realise tyres are only there to increase manufacturer profit; my handbuilt bike just has an extra layer of rim tape and rides fine. Very nimble, very light, and makes me considerably better than those pneumatic fools.

Didn't even beyond the first point. 25gm increase from a 25mm to 28mm Schwalbe Pro One, which I'm running on my winter bike (that weighs >10kg).

I probably dispose of more than an ounce of phlegm during a ride.

You have two wheels? Amateur. My unicycle halves the weight and rolling resistance of so-called "bi"cycles.

Wheels? Pah! I just strap the frame to my back and run - no wheels, gears or brakes to hold me back with their ridiculous weight. I do however keep the saddle on in case I need to sit down for a rest mid-ride.

So many variables , different rims and tyres come up different widths

Different tyres ride differently

Different Rider weights

Different grades of tarmac and states of road across country

Yada Yada Yada

Just find what works for you, never understand those who get militant about other peoples choices. Like people who go mad that SPDs are better than SPD-SLs

28? My drop bar bike is on 37s rotate

Unless you live somewhere with perfect smooth tarmac I'll take a bit of comfort, thanks.

I ride pretty much exclusively on extremely smooth roads. I just thought I would add that.

The tyres on one of my bikes are 3 inch wide, try not to get too irate reading this. I’ve got a motorbike with tyres the same width too.

There needs to be a next fad on next fad on next..

Gravel bikes are ridiculous. You can ride something like a Genesis Equilibrium easily as a gravel bike etc. Yet there's been a new name invented to sell another genre.

My race bike is on Vittoria Corsa G+ 27c. Perfect tyres. No need for higher.

Bike manufacturers need to increase sales i.e profit year on year.

It'll all come crashing down next year. Bicycles shouldn't cost 2k+. They are simple things ffs.

If there’s a niche to fill, a gap in the market, then manufacturers will fill it. They want to sell as many bikes as possible, so they employ the same business model that many other industries do, they diversify and offer a greater choice. Do we really need 85 different types of ‘Mini’? Nope, but all the time people are buying them.

If the bike industry collapses next year I’ll give you my >£2K bike...

But you won’t want it because it has:
25mm tyres (they’re rubbish actually, I want my 23mm GP4000s back)
Electronically operated motorised derailleurs (the horror!)
And...disc brakes! (Shoot me now).

Seriously, there are people out there uploading pictures of their dinner to the internet. Anyone out there just riding a bike, whatever nonsense it has stuck to it, should be applauded.

I don't have an issue with Di2 or disc brakes.

Bikes are made effiecently and cheaply I the far East, pass through upto three lots of markups before they reach us. I just think it's obscene.

I know the Yen value effected Shimano pricing but even so it's obscene for what it is in effect.

Because they have a choice and choose their preferred size?

Why do people put 2 sugars in a cup of tea? I often wonder at their choice when clearly zero sugar and a dash of milk is the ideal recipe....it really gets to me....but then I give my own face a good slap and leave them to it.

Why?

That's fine but I find people will buy the next new thing as they are constantly looking to better their riding. New kit will solve all issues.

The issue is their lack of self belief and never being happy.

If I rode the same bike for three years I'd feel totally at ease but in the past I've constantly change major parts then when reaching a nadar of perfection I've seen a mag review on a wonderful new invention for the bike world, bought the thing trusting a journalist who is paid to shift things and it turns out to be a turd.

Done this loads in the past before I realised some journalists don't have a clue or need to say flattering things for a sponsor.
