1 - Stop riding and give the injury time to heal.

2 - Invest in some good shorts. I moved from a tired pair of Endura shorts to some Rapha Classic and have had no discomfort since.

3 - Are you rolling about on the saddle when riding, an issue caused by an incorrect position on the bike?

That sounds crazy! I can tell the difference between brands of shorts but never get anything approaching broken skin - even after 5 or 6 hours in the saddle.

I'd be going for a bike fit I think. The area you describe should be fairly stretched out and I guess you have a fold somewhere :-)

Do your Bibs actually fit you? As in tight, without been uncomfortable; I'm not sure they could be?

Bib's are a bit of a personal choice, Endura make different widths & lengths. I have Endura, Sportful (no rain) & Stolen Goat, I tend to use Assos Mille mainly, so do a lot of friends who ride, and none of us experience any of the issues you've described.

Could it possibly be a washing powder\detergent issue? It's not anything physical but a chemical\allergy reaction? That could explain the happening, not happening randomness of it. Maybe a different softener gets used, or a quicker wash\less rinse cycles has been used? Only suggesting this as I've had occasional skin irritation from shorts and could only get the likely suspects down to this, and I'm still not 100% that was the cause.

Have you seen a doctor?

I am not one, but being a qualified random stranger on the internet I'm going guess that you have a fungal infection that flairs up once in a while. The yanks call it jock itch. Try a tolnaflate cream.

I have the same issue although thankfully not quite to the point of bleeding sores. That said I’m sure if I did a century ride i probably would.

Mine is always left side just in the buttock crease primarily where the chamois pad is stitched. Tried a few shorts and currently running Castelli without success. Tempted to try Pactimo which are supposed to be supremely comfortable or I’m sure Assos do a short without stitching in the chamois.........

I’ve just had a bike fit and they did a simple gel type saddle test to measure sit bone width. Recommended a few 143mm short nose saddles to try but the first one (Specialized Power Expert) hasn’t done anything to alleviate and a second Prologo is inbound although I’m not that confident.

Bottom line is I’m none the wiser but feel your pain, literally. Really spoils the ride and I’m seldom 20km in before the discomfort starts. Hope you get sorted.

Chafing.

Get some silicone underpants or Lanacane.

Do you use chamois cream?

Seeing as your symptoms seem soo bad, I wouldn't disregard any options ie. the doctors
And as others have said go for the best chamois you can afford. ASOS always get good reviews.

I suffered from a similar discomfort for a while until I bought one of those ergon cleat aligning tools. Turns out my heels were pointing inwards causing not only inefficiency but also the chafing. Lined my cleats up and the problem went away. The best £17 I've ever spent

Definitely worth trying, here's a link to the tool

I too tried different saddles and shorts without success until I did this

Never experienced anything like that, slight discomfort from cheap Bibs but I generally only wear Bioracer for up to say 4 hours and if going over that Assos, not the cheapest pair but next one up.

There have been plenty of threads about bibs and some people get on with one brand others dont.

They are now two years old and you tell the pad is slightly permanently compressed. Will see about sending them back for a replacement. I use their cream.

manufacturers have differnet chamois shapes.

I cant wear madison or I get a similar thing to you, although its not intermittent, it stays!

you may just need to try specific shorts or chamois types to find one that fits
