Might treat myself to a new pr of cycling glasses. Saw these advertised on FB are these sort of re-act-to light sort of glasses any good.

I've got Nikon transitions lenses in my specs and they are very very good. So as a concept they work well for cycling. Don't know what the quality of those ones is like though. Looking at the comparison photos the lenses I have are both clearer and darker than those in the link. Not sure I would expect much for £15.

They are fake Oakley RadarLock glasses. I have bought some fake Oakleys. They aren't very good at all. Lenses aren't dark enough IMO and the rubber parts that fit over your ears are pretty loose and I actually superglued them back on.

I've since moved onto Siroko Teck K2 glasses. They are more expensive that the ones in your link, but they are much much better than my fake Oakleys.

However in the knock off world we live in, even my Sirokos are based on the POC sunglasses design. They do fit well though and they feel pretty well made.

Can't really be doing with faux versions of Oakleys etc.

Read some stuff a few years back about what actually happens when your eyes think that the glass is tinted and then let all the UV rays through if the lenses are not up to the required standard. I had some Faux Oakleys that I got in Hong Kong at the time and I just binned them.

Personally I tend to see what the bike shops are offering from the lower price branded companies like Altura or Northwave and go with those.

I do have a pair of X Loops from e-bay that I keep in the car and actually look really cool and are also supposedly 400 UV rated. They are available in all colours and for the price are great quality. The company is based in Birmingham. Reviews on line seemed favourable.

Oakley Jawbreakers are the best I`ve used so far.

Don not buy fakes, I saw a guy crash at 65kph in Gran Canaria, his cheapos split and dug 2 holes in his forehead.

If you look on eBay, AliExpress etc theres a range of prices. So not all Foakleys are the same. In terms of build quality and I saw a vid of someone showing the lens distortion

This Aussie guy took some fakes and had them tested. 100% UV protection, and I read elsewhere that to make the lens NOT be UV resistant is to use REALLY cheap materials.

And I saw a (fairly long) review comparison between the fakes and the real ones.

I just wanted something cheap to use for commuting, that I wasn't going to worry about as much as my genuine RadarLocks. So Ive taken a £15 punt on some "PHMAX cycling sunglasses" (Basically Jawbreaker copies!) from Amazon, so if and when they turn up I'll post up some pics and thoughts.

Polycarbonate naturally filters UV so try and ensure the lenses are made from that. Doesn't guarantee their impact resistance etc though.

Thanks for responses so far I didn't realise the glasses I originally posted were so cheap tbh or I wouldn't have bothered. I wear a pair of expensive Oakley glasses at the moment but I was looking for something that would cope with sunny conditions going into the twilight period when it can get quite dark under the trees and country lanes, hence my question about reactive lenses.

Thanks

I have a pair of electric tint changing glasses. I never wear them because it turns out they don't really suit my face shape. I got them from this campaign:

Happy to consider selling them...

I've got a set of Oakley M-frames with prizm lenses - fantastic IMHO and I use them both on and off road.

Can you recommend a retailer? I'm getting to the point now where I'm a bit blind in non-prescription sunglasses so I could do with some...

Another vote for Oakley Prizm lenses. I use the trail ones during the day, but swap to clear lenses in rain/poor light.

I was out in my car with the roof down last week and took a stone to the face at 60mph. It cracked the frame on my Oakleys, but the lens and more importantly my eyes/face were fine. I hate to think what the mess would have been with cheap/fake glasses.
