Pulled an old "Handbuilt in England" CBR Claude Butler Virago Mountain bike out of the shed it must be 15 years old, the bikes in very good condition chrome molly frame sr-suntor front suspension and 18 speed shimano gears but the tires deflate and are aged cracked, I put the bike away years ago as the tyres were too knobbly for going around the streets.

Anyhow the rims say
"RIGIDA made in England 20x599* 519 9 9 1 7 2 1 L" Guessing 20x599 is the size. *(Edit wrong size should be 20x559 see one of my posts below)
Tyres say Vuelta Italy TEAMissue "26 x 2.10 - (54-599)" how does a 26" wheel fit on a 20" rim confused

What I'm after is some type of fairly simple street tyre that is not too wide, up to £30ish each

Any help with new tyres appreciated, going to use it pootle around local area.

AIUI, '20 x 599' denotes the tyre is 20mm wide with the rim having a diameter of 599mm.

When i put a tape measure across the rim edge to rim edge i get approx 570mm

Anyway going by tyre sizes found these https://www.evanscycles.com/schwalbe-land-cruiser-... would the 1.75" fit onto narrow for the rim bead or would I need the 1.9" or something else.

That's a standard 26" mountain bike tyre.

The 559 figure is the tyre's bead seat diameter (measured where the tyre bead sits inside the rim) and will always be less than the overall diameter.
