Anyone got any recommendations for some winter shoes (I know it's a bit early to be thinking about this)...

Looking at something to MTB / Commute in over the colder months - thinking some thermal shoes with overshoes for the wetter ride...

I don't want to spend a fortune but equally want something decent - I like the look of the Northwave Raptor thermal - cheapest I have found in my size is £89.99 which is probably at the higher end of my budget - anything else to consider? It's a struggle to find anything local to try on...

Those shoes you have found are a good bet or...

I've always found layering up the best way for me to deal with cold when I commuted in all weathers. Decent merino or waterproof socks, normal shoes, maybe with the ventilation mesh tapes over and a pair of quality waterproof over shoes.

Ultimately you're probably still going to get wet but of you can delay it or make it more comfortable your on to a winner.

I've got some NorthWave ones, can't remember the name but they're pretty decent, especially with some ultra warm socks. The shoes are waterproof and I use "heat holders" socks which are tog 2.3 rated IIRC! I get Reynauds in my hands/feet so always struggle!

Chunky, but £50 as long as you're a size 8.5, I'm not otherwise I would have some.

The Shimano winter boots got me through the couple of winters I commuted, and are way less faff than overshoes.

MW5 looks like the current equivalent, although there's also a MW7 with Goretex for a bit more. They even have what is basically a chunky winter walking boot with SPD cleats (XM9).

https://www.charliethebikemonger.com/ stocks 45nrth, the range goes all the way to arctic expedition gear but the less extreme end is meant to be good for UK winters.

Evans have a few other options from Northwave, Fizik, Specialized, Scott as well as the Shimanos. They can be pretty helpful about getting things in from other stores or the central warehouse if they don't have it in store.

Same here - Celcius I think. They are brilliant and warm - although being waterproof means they dont drain if you do get them wet (water running down my leggings or massive puddles normally). Mine stink after 2 winters!

Another vote for Northwave Celsius. After years of struggling with various combinations of socks and overshoes they have been awesome. Can’t fault them.

Damn you!

Just bought these, £92.99 after discount codes VBOXSS and VB10 applied as well.

Possibly more discount if I recommend you

Northwave boots are brilliant, I've had mine for 5 winters now (iirc) and cant believe I spent the years before faffing with sealskins, overshoes etc. One of the best cycling purchases I have ever made. Splash out, you wont regret it!

The yellows are not in my size but they have the black Raptors, both Thermal and Winter in my size, did you apply both discounts or just one, it only allows 1 when I tried. What can I get if you recommend me, I've never used Pro Bike Kit if it is for new customers.

Do the sizing of Northwave match normal shoes, no need to go up/down which I have read with some brands?

Appreciate all the responses so far.

My Northwaves are my usual size, i just wear normal socks but this winter it got very cold and thicker socks were too tight. If i bought again id deffo go half size up or even a full size.

I put in the 10% code first, then the £5 one, which only knocked £2.50 or so off I think, but took them both.

If I send you an email through their web page you get alink which gives you 10% off over £50 (up to a max £20) and I get £5.
