I have started to develop a pain around my left shoulder blade after a ride. Is this likely to be a bike fitting issue, or a muscle flexibility issue (need to do more stretching)?

Maybe both, I still suffer after a bike fit (well three bike fits).

Physio suggests stretching before and after (although this isn't always easy when commuting and everything is a bit of a rush).

I wish I had shares in Ibuprofen gel!

If it is muscle related rather than a trapped nerve etc then I think it's more likely that the muscles are weak rather than need stretching.

Could be some sort of muscle imbalance pulling things out of line and putting more stress on the opposing weaker muscle group, which then fatigue and cause pain.

Might just be a case of working out what muscle groups are being affected then working a few sets of weights/body weight type exercises into your routine.

Sounds like it's your upper trapezius muscles.

I had constant shoulder pain at beginning of year, just ignored it

Came back a few weeks ago and lingered since, in the end I just couldn't sleep on it at all at night, cycling oddly helped it, but lieing on it would drive me nuts

Last night did some dumbbell routines and last night no pain at all,bar a slight niggle and a greats nights sleep

I think I have an underlining issue/bad form but my muscles get lazy over time and stop working causeing issues. A quick weights routine kicked them both into action.

I get the same issue on my knees, in that they get lazy cycling and ache. A routine of piston squats, goblin squats and glute bridges kicks starts the muscles in the legs and the knee pain goes

As above, mine sounds like the trapezius muscles and stress could trigger them, either way a decent workout with weights helped me
