Morning All,

I have my roadbike since 2014 and its running well, but some of mates have a second roadbike to take some of the mileage. I have a CX bike which works well in the winter when the roadbike is on the tacx machine.

What is the criteria in your collective opinion(s) to justify having a second roadbike, apart from wallet size. More than 10,000km per year for example??

I have a similar set up - road bike for when i am serious and a CX bike which normally runs on slicks as a back up winter bike which I dont mind getting wet.

And all my other bikes

Low threshold for justifying things apparently

I've got 4!

Different bikes, for different needs. Training bike, race bike, single speed, time trial bike.

There is no need for any of them currently given I do fk all riding mind you hehe

2 bikes here. 1 I bought January this year, the other in 2011.....so mainly just to upgrade as the 2011 wasn't even the right size for me. I use the 2011 bike mainly for commuting or if the weather is bad, the new bike for anything else!

I currently have 4 bikes

Specialized Allez - My first road bike, currently knackered but being built up with new groupset and wheels for CRIT racing
Cube Attain GTC - Wanted a nice light carbon bike for 100 milers
Raliegh RX Elite - Cheap canti Cyclocross bike used for CX races, bashing around the woods and transporting the kids in the seat or trailer
Verenti Technique Claris - Bought earlier this year for £150 from eBay having only covered 100 miles. Used for commuting and will be used as a winter bike.

I could never understand why people needed more than 1 bike until I got more into riding smile

I still want to buy another two bikes. I want a better lighter CX bike with hydro discs for CX racing & also a cheapish MTB so I can enter some XC races in the summer.

Advanced propel for summer when I pretend I'm any good.

Cannondale synapse with discs and mudguards for winter

Single speed Cooper Spa (chromed) for when I just pop into town

Trek Domane at my other place in Essex to save me transporting bikes as well as dogs

mtb to get muddy

I've been saving for a better set of wheels for my road bike. But I really fancy doing some racing so instead going to save a bit more and get a CX bike to do some local cross races and local winter and "mixed terrain" rides as there's a few trails round here which aren't worth getting the full sus MTB out for.

Really like the look of the new Canyon Inflite.

I'm at three and they all serve very different purposes.

1) Canyon Aeroad for going as fast as possible for up to 200km.
2) J Laverack J.ack for ultradistance racing, audax, 200km+, bikepacking, winter duties, Paris-Roubaix etc.
3) Foffa single-speed for town riding and not getting nicked.

I'd like to add a TT bike as soon as possible too.

3.5 for me

Summer

Winter (mudguards, lights etc.)

Fixed wheel (summer use only, nice flat routes). Given that it has been in bits for two years and has only done about 200 miles so far this year, it is what one could refer to as a superfluous extra, but I like riding it now and then

An old one sat on my wahoo Kickr. It counts as half as it has no brakes and the front wheel doesn't spin. It is a 1986 Raleigh of some sort: Reynolds 531, Shimano 600 bits generally) and an SMP saddle for comfort.

Two for me.

Carbon (Ultegra + carbon wheels) expensive one for summer and nice weather
Aluminium (Tiagra and Aluminium wheels) for winter and bad weather.

Whilst one is on the road the other sits on the turbo.

3 for me , 1 for the turbo trainer a cheap carrera off eBay , 2 a aluminium mekk 105 group set with upgraded fulcrum wheels for winter , and 3 a carbon trek SLR emonda super light posh summer bike which is currently in play a lot due to the really silly hot summer we are having, I would like an aero bike to see how they ride but I can't justify the extra massive cost right now , maybe next year ........

Used to call them the nice bike and the workhorse. Then the wet weather and the dry weather bike. Then they both got nice (all by themselves, honest).

Now they are the crosswinds/climbing bike (light, mid section tubs) and the aero/speed bike (lots of surface area from the side, deep section tubs).

And then there’s criminally underused tri/tt rig.

Life’s too short to justify things like bikes .

More bikes is always the answer...........

Currently a Scott Foil for sunny days and going quickly, a Cervelo P5 for Triathlon and a Cannondale slate for everything else.

Until recently i had a Scott Spark 29er, but it never got used - so it went

MADONE 9.9 for summer riding / club runs etc
PARLEE ESX for err, summer riding / club runs etc (plus it's easier to breakdown for travelling)
CINELLI Single speed track bike for bombing around London.

The Madone and Parlee are chosen by whatever whim I feel like on the day or best matches kit. The Parlee is painted digicam so works with plain kit (block pink, matched to shoes and bottles) the Madone stealth so anything else works.

Both are aero bikes (although possibly stretching that definition on the parlee), although I'd probably defer to the Parlee on longer 80mile + rides as less aggressive than slammed H1 fit. Both get ridden year round on same kit aside from wheelset (Parlee runs 6.7s Madone 7.8s).
