Hello,

I recently bought a second hand Elite super chrono fluid with the elastogel roller.

I tried it with my hardtail on knobblies and it's really noisy. I put my wife's bike on there (Schwalbe marathons) and it is much quieter.

So I plan to buy a new tyre for my 29er but would you buy a turbo trainer tyre or set of road tyres so if the weather is good ? Eg, Is a normal 700c road tyre much noisier than the same size turbo tyre?

Thanks, Andrew.

A turbo trainer tyre is generally that because it is harder wearing. Turbos chew through soft grippy tyres very fast. Don’t think noise comes into it.

My turbo tyre is much quieter actually. As above, they're rock hard but while mine is nominally 23mm (or whatever), it has deep ribs cut into it. Because it doesn't deflect, result is a much smaller contact area and less noise.
