Other than the daft name does anyone know or have an opinion as to whether or not these are any good? I've been thinking of getting another full suspension bike and these fall within the budget I had in mind. There don't seem to be any reviews on them as they're fairly newly released.

I've looked at the standard one at my local Go Outdoors, but not knowing anything about bikes (bought my last new bike over 12 years ago) and the days of choosing between a Marin, Trek and Specialized have long gone I don't know if they're akin to a Carrera from Halfords or are they better? There is much more choice and loads of brands that I've not heard of.

Another way of looking at it would be to ask for recommendations of what bikes I should consider looking at with a budget of £1500 for a full suspension bike for general cross country and forest trails?

TIA PH5121.

The bossnut gets really good reviews and probably the best value bike for that amount. Certainly better than any Carrera heap. You could easily by a dropper seat post for it with the change left from £1k.

Other things to consider are Whyte, Canyon or YT who do a 29" Jeffsy that is very good value.

It's not 'perfect' the external dropper remote will always look a bit of an after thought and it's a bit of a shame they could have specced a Revelation fork for £1500 rather than a Reba for £1400, but unless there's a complete bargain on offer from a 'better' brand there's not much better for the money.

It doest everything well and they're fun to ride, very early ones had a few problems (3/4 years back now) and as far as I can tell Go Outdoors handled it very well, well they got there in the end anyway.

It's actually a very good antidote to this idea you should want a £10k Carbon Enduro Race Bike to have some fun off-road.

Thanks, so not a lemon then.

My current bike is a Marin Wolf Ridge that I bought in 2006 when what I really wanted at the time was an Orange 5 but the Marin was about £500 cheaper.
Now 12 years later on I still want an Orange 5 but two kids and a wife who now works part time means I'm further away from getting the '5 than I was back then as they're now £3k.

I've got a Bossnut V2 and it's brilliant so far. Only issues I can think of are an internally routed dropper would be nice and I don't trust the rear tyre at all on gravel and don't trust it much on other surfaces. A mate bought a Norco that was £1350 rather than the £900 I paid and other than his has nicer dropper routing and is 1x10, they are pretty similar (his also has the same tyres and he doesn't trust his either). The brakes on his are rubbish and he wants to replace them.

I'm not the best rider, so I don't need a £5k bike and it's fine for me. My previous bike is a Carrera Fury and I found that pretty good as a hard tail, I've still got it for going out with the kids. Recently, I've had a go on a FS Marin (forgotten the model, but a bit irrelevant as only the frame is original, all other parts have been replaced and upgraded), a Cannondale Trigger 4, the Norco I mentioned and a 2010 Stumpjumper FSR. I found the Cannondale and Marin smoother than the Bossnut (but the forks on the Marin cost nearly as much as my bike), the Norco was similar and the Stumpjumper was definitely showing it's age. Even the V2 will probably feel like a different world to your current bike.

Just after I got the V2, the V2 Evo came out and I probably would have gone for that as it's 1x10/11, which I like on my Carrera, but I do like the 2x10. I would probably have paid the extra for the BBB, but I know that I don't need it.

I know of a 1 year old Bossnut bought by a family friends son. Its get regular use and probably abused but it is looked after. I was asked to look at it last month as its making funny noises. Headset was loose, tried to tighten but no joy, needs a new one. Knocking from rear shock, shock eye lower bush and mounting hard ware to be replaced. Replaced and with that replaced I noticed that the main pivot bearings and the upper ones are buggered, they were hidden by the shock mount. So hes now replacing all bearings and mounting hardware as there is obvious wear on the bolts.

Right! I know its a cheap bike with some great VFM items however, it looks like the rear linkage suffered for the other parts.

I have heard about issues with the rear linkages on the bossnut from ex owners too. They get great reviews in magazines but I wonder if they do really long term tests for durability issues? Most brands these days do life time warranty on the frames don't know if you get this on these. Otherwise all looks good spec for money.

I’m fairmess my Intense which cost more than double the cost of a Bossnut needed a lower shock mount and linkage bearings after a year too.

Some of the early, V1 Bossnuts had an issue with their linkages, I don’t know if the root cause was ever found, some say some were fitted with an incorrect shock, some say it was misaligned frames but the result was if you fitted a wider or even more aggressively treaded tyre than the fairly narrow standard one it would foul the frame on full travel. It didn’t seem to affect all of them and the revised ones can take pretty hefty tyres without issue.

To be fair that sounds like a kid who doesn't look after his bike.
ie. check things are done up properly, grease/lube what needs to be and wash your bike after it getting covered in dirt and st

I can fully assure you the bike was WELL lubed and is washed and polished regularly. He has a TQ wrench and knows how to use it. The finish of the bike is better than my 8 month old MTB and I don't use much mine as much.
