Looking at getting a new road bike to complement my 25 year old Marin Pallisades Trail.

Budgeting around £500 and have seen the Vitus VRX at Chainreaction for £489 which seems a decent spec for the price with Shimano Tiagra gearset.

Has anyone got experience of the Vitus range, also any other suggestions appreciated, budget may be a little flexible.

Any pics of the Marin? My dad has a 25 year old Eldridge Grade that is about to be retired from riding duty as it's suffering from metal cancer in the downtube frown Love those retro MTBs though, remember looking through the catalogues in awe as a 7 year old.

Don't forget that if you do buy a bike from CRC, you get a 10% discount for being a British Cycling member (membership cost about £20 if your not already a member). You also get 10% off bike from Halfords also.

So using man maths, you now have a £550 budget to spend on a new bike smile

Vitus are/were a decent mid-price French brand. CR took them over a few years ago for UK distribution.

I had a very nice Vitus alloy frame from them in 2016 which was really well built and a pleasure to ride.

There's so much choice in bikes at the moment, prices tend to dip in September when the next-year models appear and the summer market goes back inside for eight months. :-)

Still going strong and largely original. Bought it from Condor Cycles in London back in 1993, still have original receipt, cost about £350.

haha cheers for that, same year as my dads one- same decals on frame and forks (think my dad got his at the end of 1992). The Eldridge grade had red accents to the colours scheme.

He almost traded it in at Evans recently for discount off a new road bike but we wouldn't let him get rid of it.

I've been happy with the Vitus MTB I got a few years back.
