Hi all

My 2012 cannondales avid juicy 3s are done, olives, pistons and seals are £50 so need some new brakes. Can anyone recommend a good budget set that will be comparable to the avids.

I'm currently looking at shimano slx or alivio are these anygood or should I be looking elsewhere?

Clarks M2 are available for £40 for a full set including discs and are basically a Shimano clone.

Slx are in a different league to juicy / Clarks / alivio. At 50 each end on crc at the moment I'd choose them.

If that's too much to spend alivio are wooden but effective stoppers

I’ve had Clarks M2 before and wasn’t happy with feel or stopping power. Swapped them for XT and the difference was like night and day

Hardly surprising when XT brakes are £100 an end without rotors and the M2s are £40 all-in!

OP did ask for budget options comparable to Juicy 3s, which the M2 are.

Spose so, typical PH budget creep!! getmecoat

I hadn't realised the price had gone up so much on XT brakes though - I think I got them for less than £100 for both. Definitely wouldn't have paid £100 an end. This was a few years ago.

I have ridden a bike with the Clark's brakes, I really didn't rate them, they felt spongy and lacked power.

I recently replaced my Juicy Three's with a set of Shimano SLX's, I'd thoroughly recommend them.

Thanks for the reply's, I've gone for the Alivio's for £40. As I now know that any fault pretty no spares are available for anything I will just replace the kit.

The Juicy 3's are only budget so these hopefully will match or surpass them.
