I’m looking for some opinion on which bike to get on cycle to work scheme. I’ve done my 8 mile commute over the past few years on my ancient specialised mountain bike (24 speed) with hybrid tyres and its served me well but its time for an upgrade. I’m looking at something that will cope with the commute which is mostly cycle paths, some road, some unsurfaced tracks. And also do light forest tracks etc as I have a young son who is getting into more adventurous cycling. I’m thinking mountain bike or a hybrid with front suspension. My main concerns are firstly, how suitable a suspension hybrid is for forests etc and secondly will a 1x11 mountain bike be up to the road sections of my commute. I’m not out to set records but I don’t want to be hamstrung by gearing either. Obviously restricted to suppliers due to cycle to work but have these on my shortlist. Any opinion or advice would be appreciated.

Hi neil
sorry didnt read your links, but a boardman cyclo x seems to fit your bill, not sure you really need full suspension, and when the road bug finally bites, it will cope that too ! tyres will cope with gravel paths, gearing will get you up steep hills and you can buy one locally from halfords, even try on the different sizes ?
Good Luck, whatever you choose!
