Usual man maths logic here.... Need new rear wheel... Might as well upgrade to 11spd while I'm at it... New hubs? Hmmm might as well look at a groupset change!

Anyone using etap red? Good/bad views from users very welcome....

Jimbo.

Sadly none myself however a friend has it, and raves about it. It’s fancy tech yet wonderfully simple at the same time, if that makes sense? Shifting is perfect every time (like any electronic groupset), no faff with cables at all, no junction boxes or control boxes to worry about, and the left paddle down, right paddle up shifting just makes sense.

I’ve ridden a giant with it on, but only on a 5 minute demo ride

Worked really well

I have record eps on my own bike and I’d say the changes were comparable

If I was building a new bike today, it would have etap red

Sorry can't offer any help, but I will move to that when my DA DI2 dies. I had Sram red on an old bike and liked the rifle bolt gear change, so assuming it still has that quality it's win win.

Also, you're going to have to change your username...

I have E Tap on my good bike and it is brilliant.
Have also ridden bikes with Di2.
If you have larger hands you will appreciate the ease of not hitting both the up and down buttons when using E Tap over Di2.
The shifting is a tad slower with E Tap, but not so as to make any real difference.
I love the shift logic and the fact there are no wires etc, makes the bike so clean.
Buy it now, you'll love it.
If you can, get the Wi Fli rear mech. Enables you to run bigger cassettes.

Have it fitted to a Cannondale supersix evo. Excellent kit. Highly recommended

I upgraded from red 10 speed to etap wi fli. Also got another bike that came with standard etap. Find it brilliant on both bikes, especially being able to change gear whilst riding on the tops when climbing using the blips.

Went from years of SRAM Red mechanical (which I absolutely loved), and at first was a little disappointed, the shifting seemed a little slower and less rapid fire like the Red mechanical can be. However it is very very good, shifts faultlessly front and back once set up properly, even with my Q rings. I would absolutely recommend it, and the ease of installation with zero cables is a joy.

However, a word of warning, the batteries are a pile of crap. I've had 3 break on me, the little plastic tabs that secure the battery in place break off, probably due to vibrations on bumpy roads, but I've never been 100% sure. SRAM do warranty replace them, but you still need a battery in the mean time, so end up buying a few spares. Also, occasionally you'll just get to your bike and one of the batteries will have a red light, so always make sure you have a spare one charged.

I'd still take it over pretty much any other groupset, although having just done a very neat clean install of Di2 on the missus bike, it's a tough choice. I think the shifting design, left for up, right for down, on the eTap is far superior to Shimano.

Why do pro's seem to get way more mechanicals than the average cyclist, regardless of groupset?

Because they ride 15-20k miles a year and with much more power than average cyclists.

Personally I like the SRAM Red ETap AXS GS. It’s very pricey though, and with the mileages I tend to cover each year, that would become expensive.
