Any PH-ers entering?

24hr Relay at Brands Hatch

Just entered a team of 4 - Team Honeybells Glamping. We provided the Glamping at the event last year and it looked like a brilliant event so couldn't resist putting a team together!

Did it last year and the year before.

The year before was great, bit of rain and wind but then dry and beautiful on the Sunday. I really enjoyed it.

Last year. It was so-so. Crap weather made it horrible, it was constantly cold and having an injury made it very stressful in the garage with my mates.
I did however knock over 1 min off my fastest lap time from the previous (6:10 Strava, 6:23 Revolve)

Overall it's great if the weather is good.

I won't be doing the 24hr again, but may do the 6hr on my own.

I did Revolve last year. Was meant to be a team entry for the 6hr, but my team mate pulled out after about 40 minutes on the bike, so I did the rest of the ride solo.

I would do the 12hr as part of team, but there were times when I found it a bit boring. I have done 24hr cycles before but they have been point to point (Manchester to London) and that was much more interesting.

I did manage to top the leaderboard of our group of 20 ish in the first climb smile and I was second for fastest lap and I definitely had more in me.

Unsure if I will do it again.

Yep, did the 6hr as a duo and signed up before Christmas to do the same again this year.
There's a few of us entering as duos for the 6hr to add a bit more competition.

Weather looked horrible for the Dusk till Dawn guys but I found the 6hr a brilliant event that I can see I'll end up entering every year

Yep, I'll be there doing the 24 hr solo.

Colleagues and family think I'm bonkers but I just want to see what I am capable of and thought the race track seemed better than having a crack on the Mersey roads when I've got no idea how well or badly the night-time will go.

I've done a 12 hour there before so know how lumpy it is. Currently getting some early miles under my belt and going OK so far at around 1,600kms since 1 Jan.

Great to hear the replies so far. To be honest we are fairly amateur in that none of us have done anything like this before! We all cycle year round and enjoy a challenge. I'm borrowing my parents campervan so we can have a comfy bed and warm grub between stints!

If anyone has any training tips they will be very welcome!

Training tips?

Hill reps. Lots and lots of hill reps.
That's basically what the track is.
Nothing prepares you for doing laps at 3am in the rain.

As for sleeping. I slept across 3 chairs in the media centre last year which wasn't too bad.

You'll be amazed how much fitter and faster you are after it though.

I've done two now. Won the 6 hour race in 2015 and then raced the 24 last year ( Strava). I lost a 1-lap lead with a mechanical after 6 hours and then DNF from 2nd place after 12 hours with a terminal mechanical. Freezing fog and rain conditions last year too. I'm undecided if/what I'll enter this year. I'm racing TABR in June and haven't settled on how to shape the second half of the season after that. I suppose at the very least it'll be a 6 hour entry.

Out of interest, what was the mechanical? We had a communal spare bike in our team. Sadly my team mate didn't want to use it (idiot!)

I have volunteered my second bike as a spare this year. At least if I need to use it, I know what I am slinging my leg over biggrin

This was the problem. Top of the picture you'll see some broken spokes too.

Our provisional plan is for two team, one of proper fast racing snakes and a second "support" team.

Nothing set yet though.

Eddh and I were FIFTH! in the six last year, we were mighty pleased with that. There is another event this year on the Friday evening called the 12x12 where you have to do 12 laps of the GP track and 12 laps of the indy circuit in whatever combination you choose. I'm quite tempted... Indy circuit is quite fast so do all 12 and try to back some time or do 1 GP, 1 indy or all 12 GP first.

The indexing was out after dropping the chain quite violently earlier in the race and the first time I changed into the granny ring (3am) the rear mech found its way into the wheel. It destroyed itself, the hanger and pulled a handful of spokes out. Full bork.

A group of us have done Rad-am-ring for the past couple of years. Having a sabbatical this year.

It is a fantastic event though, thoroughly recommended.

I'm part of a 6-man in the 24hr. I'm completely undertrained but hey ho, isn't everyone?
