Can anyone recommend a suitable electric bike for commuting please?

Last summer I tried cycling the 12 miles round trip to work on roads and foot paths, mostly to improve my fitness. Not big miles, but it all counts. Going to work was a breeze, all down hill and flat. But coming home was the opposite, long monotonous hills separated by occasional flats. To be honest, the thought of riding home was demoralising, and after a couple of months I stopped doing it. But I still have the enthusiasm to commute by bike, and an electric bike would help overcome the misery of those horrible hills.

I'd want a bike I could still use in the rain, so mudguards would be needed. I occasionally have to take clothing/uniform to work, so the ability to fit panniers would be good. It also seems that Bosch motors are the best? Also, I'm a big heavy bloke, 6' 3" so a well built branded model with good availability of parts would be crucial. But they aint cheap are they!!

So, which brands/types of electric bike should I be considering? Dont like step though bikes, so city/hybrid type maybe? I haven't set a budget, but can't afford to go crazy. Maybe maximum of £2k, but less is best.

Cheers

Can't help on the ebike q, just wanted to say don't give up on the uphill return journey. Mine is the same, everyone finds the hills the hardest part esp after a long day at work.

But it's not a race, go at your own pace and after week or two you will find you are getting better at it. That is v motivating but it doesn't come straight away you have to stick at it.

The plain fact is that the only bit of a short ride like that that will really get you any fitter, is the uphill part. So keep pedalling and sabe money! Good luck.

I've had a few goes on the Giant Electric bikes. Seem better built than most. A solid no nonsense brand..
