Bike rack for Accord Tourer and MX5???

Sorry to be a pest again, 2nd thread in this section and I haven't even picked my bike up yet!
I'm hopefully picking it up on Monday or Tuesday, and whilst it will surely fit in the back of the Accord if I'm on my own, it won't be as easy with the dog in the boot and the baby on the backseat. I'm also going to get my wifes bike up and running again (needs new tyres after 10 years deflated in the garage and a bit of TLC) so need to be able to transport at least 2 bikes for now, the baby is only 10 months so it'll be a while til he has a bike. I've got roof bars for the Accord but not being very tall its a bit daunting lifting the bikes onto the roof without adding a load of scratches to the car, but also as I've been driving the MX5 since the baby came along it would be handy if I could carry at least my bike on that so I can go out when shes out with the baby in the 'big car'. I have heard of people putting bikes in the passenger seat of a 2 seater, but again I'd be a bit paranoid about scratches. Has anyone used a bike rack that can be used on both? If I use it on the MX5 it will only be for a few miles up to the mountain and all normal town speeds so if its not very stable then its not too much of a problem, but on the Accord the idea is we can take the bikes with us camping etc so would be to be ok on the motorway.
As for budget I guess cheaper the better, to a point. After speng the best part of £600 getting a bike and gear, the finance department is starting to get a touchy. So i guess around the £50 mark would be ideal with out getting into the really cheap looking stuff.
Any help would be great.

A saris bones is very versatile and should fit ok on both - I have used one to carry two bikes on a MK3 MR2. For £50 though you would need to find a second hand one.
Interesting to hear one can be used on a mk3 MR2! I'm not sure I would want my bike about the engine. If I'm taking my MR2 to a trail centre I hire a bike there.What load can you put on a MX5 boot rack?
I've had sports cars with as low as 12 kilos load and my MGTF is rated at 25 kilos.
Take the weight of a rack plus bike(s) and it may not be practical.
A Saris bones will fit practically anything but that's no guarantee that the boot lid can take it.

Saris Bones won't fit on a Accord Tourer.
I had a Saris Bones 3 which I sold once I got my (09) Tourer.

I think roof rack's the only option (unless you have a towbar). I'm a lanky git so getting the bike up there wasn't an issue, but if it was I'd have put a box or folding step ladders in the boot.

Ah, thanks for that, it's lucky I've been busy or I might have bought one. Can I ask what stopped it fitting. Spoiler? Looks like roof is going to be the only way forward. Ive looked for second hand removable tow bars a few times and can't justify the price of a new one with now real need for a towbar. Ive got honda roof bars for mine anyway so it's just the bike mount I'll need. Do they all bolt on are there quick release ones available other wise they'll just end up annoying me stuck on the roof whistling all the time. I might just try to get a cheapy one for the Mx5 so I can go the 4 miles up the valley to the mountain
