Swapping frame - worth the hassle?

Toying with the idea of swapping from an old Specilaized Allez frame for something else, possibly a cheap Planet X Pro Carbon*. Can't quite tell if it's worth the bother having never built a bike up from the frameset before.

Some parts will be easy swaps, but it seems steep learning curve to sort out steerer tubes/headset bearings and incompatibility issues.

Any feedback on the process welcome.

• Other options currently a CAAD10/12 or Condor Fratello.

I've always made up my own bikes and enjoyed it.

Best value for money though, would be to buy a nearly new complete bike that someone has fallen out of love with.

That's how I ended up with the Allez a few years ago, about £350 I seem to recall.

If there's a CAAD12 on offer then go for it!

True, I wouldn't entertain the PX except for the £250 price at the mo. It's mainly for commuting duties.

Your Allez and the CAAD12 both have BB30 bottom brackets. If you went to the PX you'd need to buy another set of bearings and maybe a crank too?
