I'll start off by saying a know very little about bikes so my question may seem obvious to you guys so apologies in advance.

My left hand shifter is FUBAR'd so I thought it would be easy enough to replace it like for like but I'm struggling to find one.

I currently have Shimano Deore Shifters the left is a model No. SL-M591 3 speed. Can't find this model so in my ignorance I thought any 3 speed shifter would do but I'm seeing some state compatible with 7 speed or 8,9 or 10 so my first guess seems wrong.

I have a 10 speed cassette so which left bar shifter should I be looking for as a replacement?

In case it matters the bike is a Merida Crossway 300 hybrid with flat bars.

Thanks of you can help.

Any front shifter for 3-ring setup will do - it's when they are sold as a pair that they specify speed for the rear shifter as well so that may have been the source of the confusion.

I would put a quick wanted ad in Singletrackworld as there will be a huge surplus as everyone is dropping their front mech / shifter. £5 posted should do it !

This would work http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shimano-Deore-Shifter-3-...
