Hi everyone,

I've done 10 mile tt's in the past and loved them and now looking at doing some more with a proper TT bike.

Does anyone have any experience of the Planet X Stealth and/or the Boardman ATT? With the PX I was thinking of potentially making a custom build and the Boardman with an off the shelf complete bike.

My concern with the PX frame is that it's a bit old hat now - although a new frame can be had for £499 at present

Boardman looks like a nicer frame however spec wise it's a bit more than the PX.

Any advice would be welcome. Not interested in brand snobbery just the best performance for the money (£2k budget)

Best regards,

Matt

The Boardman is a much more sophisticated frameset - the Stealth has external cabling and conventional road bike brakes - but if you spent the difference on wheels and a fitting then you'd go faster on the Stealth.

I've had mine for nearly nine years - and I saw a fair few among the top 10% of finishers when I marshalled at IMUK Weymouth last year.

You might well find a lightly-used PX Stealth on eBay for considerably less than your budget, if you'd consider going second-hand. They seem to pop up pretty regularly.

The frame won't take wider rims and tyres which are very much in vogue at the moment. 622/23 is your limit, I believe.

Best of luck.

We'll after loads of research into time trial bikes the Boardman looks like a very good design at a very good price.

What I don't understand is why so many professional reviews and forum comments of Boardman mention the brand image and snobbery against it. Great designs, great prices.. What's not to like?!

I expect a lot of it is because of Halfords.
