So I bought the Trek Marlin6 a few weeks ago now and being very mentally exhausted with work decided to head out for my first ride and clear my mind ... 6ish mile loop St Mary's Island to Tynemouth and back ... knackered but felt great ... doesn't help I'm tubby currently but starting has def been the best thing I could do

I was surprised at the cycling community though and how many nods and hellos I received when passing (well being passed) by other 2 wheeled folk! A lot more friendly than I remember from last time I was on a bike

Good on you !

I was in a similar position 3-4 years ago and needed to get active again. I started on a Mountain Bike and am now 2 road bikes deep on top of that - its a slippery slope and can get more expensive than golf when you get into it but when you weigh it up against a gym membership its great value. You can't put a price on a sunny day and a great ride out to put a smile on your face after a hectic day.

It helps if you can find some buddies to ride with as it forces you to go out on the days you feel less motivated if someone turns up on your doorstep for the planned ride.

Enjoy smile

I passed around 8 riders last night and only 2 said hello or waved, bit miserable in Hampshire LOL.

That 6 will hit 16 and then 60 sooner than you think! Keep it up, its great to get out and clear the mind!

My commute home is my meditation, a great way to clear your head.

Welcome (back) to the cycling community. Like any community, there are a few assholes, but on the whole we're a friendly bunch!

Keep riding, the first one is the hardest. thumbup

Good work, the weather is on your side for the next few months so it's a good time to resume.
