I'm currently riding a Triban 500SE http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-500-se-road-bike...
My brother is currently looking to start coming out for rides to help lose weight and take the strain off from the running. I suggested the same bike as mine, but we've seen the Felt on HUKD for £500. I'm tempted to pick this up for myself and let him have the Triban if it encourages him.
I find the Triban a competent bike, would I notice the difference with the Felt? Only go for a couple of one hour rides a week as I'm currently training for the Brighton marathon. Seems quite a good spec with the Tiagra groupset. Kind of feel like I'm suffering from wanting a new toy/bike

A couple of years ago I went from a Triban 300 (like the 500 but with metal forks and cheaper components) to a Genesis Volant 20 (almost identical spec to that Felt) and there was definitely a noticeable difference. It was easier to ride, more responsive, and much less fettling with gears and brakes; everything worked just that little bit better.
If you have a little bit more budget something like a giant defy 1 which as it's end of line now can be found for £600 odd, this was a £1000 bike, significantly lighter than the £500 level & far better specs & even the on paper good spec Triban 540 with its decent budget spec is over a kg heavier.
Or search used bikes lots of well over £1000 new & even £2000 new bikes are available used & in good condition for sub £500.
Edited to add, just spotted decathlon are currently doing the ultra 700 af £599 that's a v good spec at that level & like the Giant significantly lighter than the £500 usual bikes
