Mvic Crossmax SLR freehub damaged

Hi all, I wondered if anyone could give me some advice or their opinion on the condition of my Mavic freehub cassette splines..?

I've just stripped the rear wheel hub assembly to replace the bearings. The outside diameter of the freehub barrel is damaged where the gear cassette has deformed the locating splines.

Is the damage in the photo fairly typical, or do I have a cheap set of poorly manufactured cassette gears causing the damage

Looks better than any of my Hope hubs, nothing to worry about. Just make sure that any new cassettes you put on it have the bigger sprockets mounted on an alloy spider.

Fairly typical for alloy freehubs. Lockring being loose can make it worse but they are one of those mystical parts that cause most people on forums to have a headfit if you actually do it up to the correct torque...

As above not a problem getting a replacement isn't difficult as it should be a ITS4 freehub, which you can get in Shimano or SRAM xd if you fancy a change.

Not a big concern. Just file the raised bits down a bit and keep using.
If you want to prevent it (or at least reduce it), then you will need to look at some more expensive cassettes with alloy carriers.

But even they have separate 11 & 12 teeth.

Exactly, quick file and stick it back on.

You'll probably pringle the wheel before the free hub needs replacing.
