Helmet Light - Off Road

As the nights are well and truly drawing in, and keeping up with my regular Tuesday night rides (off road) - I feel the need to finally invest in a decent Helmet light, for the past couple of years I have been using cheap ebay items, but they give no warning of loosing power (just die) and the cable / battery storage can sometimes be a pain.

I'd like a self contained helmet light, what sort of output is required for off road riding? been looking at the Exposure Joystick at 400 lumens is this enough... budget around £100...

Not really imho.

Diablo (£160 from Winstanleys) is awesome though, can also use it as a bar mount for those rides where you don't need a helmet light too.

I run a Diablo and it's brilliant.

Got on really well with my Hope R1 as a headlight for off road, makes a good light for the main light on road. Battery pack slips either in the osprey side pocket or the pocket in the rear of my Endura bib shorts.

Exposure Joystick gets the nod from me

I had a Mk1 which eventually died after many many years of MTBing plus commuting every day in autumn/winter
In fact its still OK on strobe but the battery only lasts 20 mins or so on full

It was replaced by a Mk 9 (I think) last year which is much much brighter and lasts for ever
This is easily my most used piece of kit being used on the commute plus my weekly night ride

In the days of multi mega lumen Chinese lights its a bit weedy and although I wouldnt use it as my only light off road by choice I certainly have and Im only a bit slower as a consequence

Mk 10 is currently 107 quid at Rutland

Joystick is the only way mate lol. Ive had one for probably 8 years, 2 years ago i upgraded to a Diablo. Now I use the Diablo when im off road and the Joystick when I ride on the road. I work shift so at 2 am its nice to have a little extra on the road.

Having had another look the Mk10 Joystick is actually 800 lumens, I was looking at one of the older ones so its been improved through the years.

I might see if I can go have a look at one locally or try and demo one if I can find someone willing to offer that..

Beema here. 2000 lumens. Won best budget MTB light. UK supplier. £110.

It's great. Bar and helmet mount.

I have no affiliation with them; bought one after old light died based on mtbr review.

I run a set of Magicshines at 1400 lumens and they are bonkers bright. That said, I ride with guys with all of the above and they are more than adequate.
