Anyone else entering this weekend?

I'm racing against my mate who did it last year, and absolutely bricking it. I'm confident in my ride, obviously, but my running is erm... rudimentary.

Anyone got any spare EPO?

I'm doing this one http://www.serpentine.org.uk/pages/duathlon_eventi... as my first Duathlon next month.

If I enjoy it I might try the London next year. Let us know how you get on smile

Mine is 10km, 44km, 5km. So the distances favour the bike compared to your one (which is handy). My target times are:

10km in 55 minutes
44km in 80 minutes
5km in 25 minutes.

It's the element of competition which is scaring me. Both me and my mate are horrendously competitive and the smug will be so, so strong if he wins. He's a good runner but a very average cyclist, so I'll lose a lot of time (7-8 mins) on the 10k, which I'll hope to make back on the ride. That will leave us level pegging save for transitions (which I'm happy with) and the final 5k.

Anyone done one before?

Just make sure you make a load of time on him on the bike smile

If you do lose overall at least you can say you excelled in your 'specialism'.

I'm sure you'll do fine and let us know how you get on.

Best of luck!!

Those times are about what I'd be targeting for those distances too. Shame I'm not taking part. Could have made it a three way smug-off!

Elastic laces for the transition? Clip-on aero extensions for the ride?

Check, and check... and a pointy helmet. 'lacky laces are my secret weapon. I think he's going to be in transition struggling with lace-ups, which I am also considering paying someone to tie together while he's out on the ride.

What about food and water? None on the runs (unless they hand you some water) but eat and drink on the bike?

I did this back in 2006 when I wasn't doing much running but had started doing a lot more cycling. The first run was OK (pretty sure it was short of 10k though), then I nailed the bike (posting one of the top times out of everyone), then I completely died on the last run hehegetmecoat So I think I went from 13th fastest bike leg to 600-something fastest on the 5k! So the moral of my story is that even if you are a strong cyclist don't overcook it and ruin your final run (unless of course you've been doing loads of training and practicing running off the bike?!)

I'm alive!

First leg, did a 52.30 which I was very pleased with.
Bike leg, got bang on target for a 20mph average, 1h20ish
Felt OK going into final transition, but as soon as I started running my legs just went on strike. Felt sick and dehydrated. Ran for a km, walked for 2, and ran/trudged the final couple for an embarrassing time of 33 minutes hehe

Overall time 2:51ish which I'm pleased with, final run catastrophe notwithstanding.

My mate, meanwhile, has secretly been practising on the bike for months, and stormed a 2:33. I only made 40 seconds on him on the bike! So not even close, but I'm proud of myself anyway.

Top event, well organised (as it should be for the frankly silly entry fee) and enthusiastic marshals. I'll be back next year!

yeah, that fee is flipping expensive. i wonder if they have to compensate the Cafes there for loss of custom, or something.

Congratulations on finishing.

How much was it? (if it's not too rude to ask)

Good effort Russ, I think it would take me 2 hours to do the first 10k...
