I have had Ultegra Di2 on my bike for three years. I have covered around 9000 miles in that time and it's been great, until now. For the last three rides it's taken time to wake up. It takes takes around five taps of the levers to get started and after that it's fine for the rest of the ride. It obviously needs looking at.

Can anyone here recommend a place near The Square Mile with the capacity to diagnose Di2 faults?

I have googled the issue but cannot find any reference to it.

Cheers.

I presume you've checked wires and reseated all of the plugs. Firmware update is worth a try.

Might be worth trying Bespoke Cycling in Gresham Street. They sound like they could sort it.

Hi, sorry to re-awaken this thread, but having had di2 on a few bikes for years without issue, a 2-yr old Dura Ace setup has started exhibiting pretty much this same issue. All firmware fully up to date. I doubt loose cables etc as it's fine once awake. Did you find a root cause @Matt?

I can’t believe I posted that in 2015!

It ended up being the cable to the external battery mount. I checked every other connection but completely forgot about this one. It was a really weird intermittent fault so hard to track down. It was ultimately down to corrosion!

I also replaced the cable to the rear mech but cannot remember why. I think it was part of the fault and also intermittent.

I’m still kicking myself for not checking the battery mount!

Bar the corroded cable, the Di2 is still working well after nine years. I wish I could say the same about myself! wink

Thanks for replying Matt, and remembering!
I kind of doubt it's cables in my case, since it happens statically in the stand too, with no movement/vibration, and my cabling is all internal. First click does nothing, second click works, then it'll "fall asleep" again if I leave it too long. I will check the cables though, in desperation...
I have a COVID-19 project of building a light weight fixie, so at least it should be immune!

It got to a point where my gears would run fine for an hour or so then just pack up. Then it would start the next ride just fine.

Given the symptoms my Di2 showed it didn’t make sense that it was the cable, but......
