I just had to take a punt at that price. Ordered and collecting from store. Will do nicely on the RR 8.1 hardtail, I'm not overly fussed on the lack of a remote.
Its a shame its so big, check your frame for size before ordering!

You pull it up whilst sitting on the saddle and it will drop, I guess.

When you pull on the lever the seat drops, as long as you're sat on it, it should be damped like a fork or shock so you don't suddenly drop 4" (hurt my back that way).
Yes it will be sprung, usually air, but at £30 it might be coil I guess, again it should have a damping element to stop it shooting straight up your 'arris at 200mph.
X-Fusion HiLo are very good value, I have one and it's as-good, or better than the Rockshox dropper I had that cost 3x the price.
The whole point of them is go you can move from seat-up climbing position, to seat-down descending position without having to stop, I was very anti them at first, but they do make it possible to ride a whole trail without stopping and makes it a more flowing experience (dangerously close to hippydom there I know) so for me a remote is a must, they become second-nature very quickly and I might raise my seat for a 15metre incline on an otherwise pure DH section and I couldn't do that without a remote.

No, not at all. I bought my non-remote one about 5 years ago with the intention of using it as a lazy way of not having to adjust the seat via the QR. After a few attempts I found I didn't need a remote, even on quite swift DH sections. Yes a remote is better, but believe me it becomes as second nature as reaching for a hydration pack hose or pulling an energy gel out of your shorts pocket, opening it and eating it without stopping.Can definitely see the appeal of a remote, but is it worth 5x the price?

Must admit I'd never heard of the HiLo until this thread but had a Google and they seem to eb roughly the same price as the Rock Shox. I'm in the market for a new one following the demise of my Crank Brothers so am very interested on any other views on this. Cheers
Well.....I properly feel like a right plonker. The bloody thing doesn't fit my RR 8.1 hardtail does it......even after myself preaching to check the diameter sizing 
It did leave me to wonder why on earth Decathlon are selling an own branded accessory that doesn't fit their own branded bikes!
Anyway - not tried it yet but build quality does seem good. Going to keep mine for now - I'm buying a FS soon so I'm sure I'll find a use for it on that.

Agree little in it, I just bought a reverb stealth that came with a bottle of oil, stopper collar and bleed kit from chain reaction for £200.I didn't think really useful, I was alway happy enough to run my seat fractionally lower than ideal climbing position and it never got in the way except on the most extreme steep slopes of the sort you only find on black / downhill tracks anyway. Eventually having tried one, where I find it most useful is the ability to have it full on roady high for the ups.
