Evans Cycles: any way to get discount?
Discussion
Going in to Evans Cycles tomorrow, as looking for a new bike and it's near the office. If anything takes my fancy, do you know of any offers / discounts available?
A quick Google didn't throw anything up, and I don't have an old bike to trade-in.
Or are they generally up for a bit of a haggle? I'd only be spending around £400 though, so not a really expensive bike.
Thanks.

They have a discount if you trade in an old bike at the moment, and they mean anything, I am taking an old kids bike frame and handlebars my mate had in his shed for £100 off ( on £1000 bike). If you dont have a heap buy one for <£10 off ebay.

I have an old nail that you can use as a trade-in if you like. It would save me a trip to the tip. Based in Lewisham
Would be perfect if I was a bit nearer (Coventry). But I reckon if they are willing to give me £30/50 off for giving them a pile of scrap metal, I'd hope that it was fairly easy to just get that money off anyway. But I guess we will see, will try to go in later today.
Tried freecycle as well, but nothing on there.

If they insist on you having to take in an old bike, try your local tip ...sorry, council refuse recycling centre.
I did think this actually. But I remember someone posting on here once that the local "refuse recycling operatives" wouldn't let him take something away from the tip, even though he was going to actually use it, and they were going to crush/burn/landfill it. Probably quoted health & safety or some other rubbish. But yeah I might try it, if it'll be worth my while (considering how much it will get me off, if budget creep continues...)
It would be worth getting an old clunker if it was free.
How bad does it have to be before they'd say no?
