Can I fit 25c tyres on my old Mavic Cosmic elite rims?

Afternoon all,

After realising the Canyon Aeroad I want won't be available until around July time I have decided to spruce up my old faithful Giant for now. Have ordered a few bits but was thinking about some new tyres also.

Currently got Vredestein Fortezza on the bike (the rear in the photo is an old Conti I have been using on my Turbo) but all the reviews of 25 width tyres I am thinking maybe whilst looking for tyres why not try some 25's!?!?

Appears to be enough clearance to get 25's on - is clearance the only thing that needs to be considered?





If they're an option and will fit has anybody got any recommendations for 25's?

You can probably guess the clearance, some tyres vary in size even though they are 25c

If it was me I would leave 23s on, if it aint broke....

25s look fine from those pictures and yes, that's your only consideration (and tubes - but they should be fine).

Have gone for a pair of Vittoria Open Corsa CX 25c....I understand the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it', but just trying to give the old basher a lift

Check your FD mount (if you have one) on mine the clearance is miles all around the bike except it has a strap around FD mount and the 25's would hit that (if I hadn't filed a piece out :-)

Just popped a set of Continental Grand Prix 4 Seasons 25's on my Boardman to replace the same 23 tyres (one got glass sliced and had to be replaced). So far happy and cant see me going back to 23's - little bit more forgiving and no perceptible loss (or gain depending on what you read) of performance.

I've no idea about 700 x 25c tyres on a Giant with Cosmic Elites (although I'd be surprised if they didn't easily fit), but after wasting an hour in my garage earlier, I now know that you cannot fit 700 x 38c Continental Tour Rides onto the original Rigida rims on a 1997 Falcon Pro-Line running Ultegra 6700 brakes. Well. They'll fit on the wheels, but you won't get them into the frame...

...so 'Project Frankenbike' has suffered it's first major setback. Now I'm going to have to buy some fatter tyres for it.
