Morning

On a training ride last night, climbing a hill ( out the chair ) slow rpm and hard power , when my left knee ( centre ) suddenly decided to hit me with sharp pain.. i backed off and rolled home.
Woke today and knee hurts frown

Anyway, anyone know what that could be?, guessing slight tear of some sort? , sat in chair if i lift leg to full lock i can feel a slight pain in cap.

Cheers

I had a very similar pain starting a few weeks back after a big block in Majorca and it turns out it was a super tight quad that was causing the issue and putting pressure on my knee cap. So after some deep massage on my qud and plent of stretching it seems to have sorted itself out.

Christ, yes, I hope that wasn't intentional, makes me wince when I hear of people doing these low gear reps in the hope they actually do anything useful!

Rest and ice it and keep stretching I guess, see how it goes.

Oops!

I dropped to 29rpm on one climb yesterday. I hadn't meant to do any real hills just yet, as I'm still getting back into road riding after a year, and having not ridden at all for four weeks.

I'm not deliberately going for low cadence training though, it's just that with a 53/39 chainset and a 13-23 screw-on 7 speed freewheel, I can't go any lower without swapping components or switching to a different bike. I'm going to have to be more careful with my knees, I reckon...

I ride a lot of single speed MTB, and suffer with patella tendonitis a bit, probably not helped by all the running I do, my physio used kinesio tape to support the patella during one of my recovery periods, I find that helps a great deal. I now tape my knee up before any daft events I'm taking part in.

Okgo, you seem to know your onions, so can I ask a question? With DI2, is the mech moved higher and lower by a motor, so you're not relying on any spring tension? Reason I ask is that no matter what I do to fettle my rear mech, it just won't cleanly engage all gears up and down the cassette I.e it will do some going up but not down, if I then try and adjust tension with the barrel adjuster it seems to be the opposite, but still not every gear going in cleanly. It's a one year old 105 mech, new chain, new cassette, new cable. Wondering if I should just bit the bullet and get di2 :-)
Sorry for thread hijack....

Could be a number of things, but check hanger alignment as this doesn't need to be far out, cable runs with any tight bends, and jockey wheel wear.

My first thought is you'll be needing one of these http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-derailleur-hanger...

I know about some things, I always had annoying issues with gears too, and actually as the guys above have highlighted mine was mostly due to a bent mech hanger! I bought a new one as I didn't have the tool and they were cheap but it did solve my issue, di2 on a bent hanger will be just the same as mechanical...

It does have a spring but the motor obviously acts as the cable pull

Thanks for the replies all. I should also mention that I've out on new wheels, going from rs11 with 10 speed cassette to campagnolo zonda with 10 speed cassette. I've used the 1mm spacer and the 1.8mm spacers combined (which seems to be correct from various internet sources) but if this was too big, could that throw out the indexing on some gears and not others? Or would they all just be knackered?

When I had a bike like that (but with 21 tooth "big" sprocket), I sourced a 7 speed screw-on block with a 27 tooth big sprocket. It helped a lot.

I've got a 36/22 on my mtb, there's some proper push pull going on up some of the climbs, good upper body workout, but I'm a bit concerned the stem is going to break sometimes.
