Kid's bike recommendations

My daughter is five, and currently rides one of these (without the stabilisers)
We went out on our bikes last weekend, and she did a ride of over 15 miles on it which, mainly due to the small wheels and short cranks is pretty hard work.
So I'm thinking of getting a new bike for her birthday in a few months time.
Problem is that she is quite small, inside leg measurement is about 48cm.
This means that bikes like the Frog 52 and Islabike Beinn 20 are too big. And anything smaller doesn't have any gears.
any other brands worth looking at? I don't really want to spend islabike money, but equally I don't want to buy a scaffold-tube special from Halfords.

Who needs gears anyway, invariably heavy & stiff rubbish on kids bikes. Singlespeed ftw.
Seriously though, there's a typical family who ride to school past my house a couple times a week.
The only one that can make it up the hill is the one with a singlespeed

Kudos to her for doing 15 miles, WOW.
We lured her with the promise of ice cream, then once we had had the ice cream we had no option other than to ride all the way home Kudos to her for doing 15 miles, WOW.
