Bikes are a sentient life form

They must be! How else could they know exactly when you're at the furthest possible point of your ride, and choose then to have a mechanical failure? 
I decided to take my new bike out for a little blat before breakfast. At the furthest point on the ride, clunk. I've yet to check whether it was the joining pin on my new chain (in which case down to me if I didn't seat it all the way through) or another pin (in which case, on to CRC for a replacement) but the net result was no chain, thus no pedalling.
Not only did the bike know this was the furthest point on my ride, it also knew I didn't have a chain tool with me, or it would've been a pretty easy fix.
Not only did the bike know I didn't have a chain tool with me, it also knew that outside rush hour, I could've just put the bike on the train at the station 200 yards away and gone to the station 200 yards away from home, but they won't allow bikes during rush hour. If I had been allowed to put the bike on the train, it would've known this, and decided to break at the new most inconvenient spot.
Last time I had something like this was when I broke a mech hanger at the bottom of a valley on Exmoor. Needless to say, I've never since even come close to damaging a mech hanger since I started carrying one!
If I wanted a 5 mile walk across muddy ground, I'd take one. I just wouldn't take a bike to push with me!!!

So do I. The only reason I didn't this time is because I forgot to put it back in my Camelbak after fitting the chain to the bike in the first place!!!
