Bike box

Does anyone have any recommendations for a hard bike box (road bike). I guess what I am looking for is something like a bike box alan but without the £500 price tag.

Two cheap options for low usage

Hire an Alan bike box

Use a Cardboard box that bikes are shipped all over the world in, Strip the rear mech off and any other parts that may be easily damaged. Pad it well and seal it up remember to pack some tape for the return trip.

Hire the Alan. It's not worth risking anything less IMO.

I'm going away during the summer with the bike so I've already put the deposit down to hire a bikeboxalan. I looked at cardboard boxes but knowing how "careful" throwers are at airports you'd need to reinforce it somehow with a wooden frame so it defeats the point.

Even a well used one (re: battered) which had wheels missing was on eBay for £130ish.

Weeks rental is less than £50
