I've just had a load of 2015 KOMs from a ride out this morning. Have the leader tables been reset or is it a new feature?

Seems they are changing -
" yes, you heard it right. We’re starting 2015 with clean leaderboards to make way for a brand new set of annual achievements."

I suspect something to encourage people by removing some of the targets that were impossible for them

The all time KOM's still stand they have just introduced annual ones, which kind of makes it interesting, just got to keep thashing it.

Only my KOMs till someone else rides the segment.

Nervous about the cobbles especially as my CX bike is in bits!

Tour of Flanders maybe...

Beth got one this afternoon whilst taking Bronwen out for a walk! She uses only Strava to see how far she walks but picks up segments on the way.

I reckon it's a good idea. It might be a bit silly on rarely ridden routes, but take "Full Sawyers Uphill" in Richmond Park as an example... http://www.strava.com/segments/3970089 ...and as at 1900hrs on January 1st 2015 it had already been ridden by 160 people, so you still need to be pretty quick in the grand scheme of things to get a top 10 place, even "just" for 2015 results.

Some of my regular routes aren't used all that much by other riders, in fact some of my regular segments only have 4 riders on the all time leader board, so I suspect I'll be quite high on one or two "2015 KOM" boards for a big portion of the year. It's nice to see how you compare to those riders who are 'currently active' and it'll be great for those who ride parts of pro race routes, especially if the pro peloton doesn't storm through this year, like certain parts of Yorkshire and Essex... wink

It might seem like "dumbing down" the leaderboards, but, as has already been mentioned, the all time KOM/top ten will still stand. It's just an extra filter to retrieve only 2015 results, and anything that encourages people to ride more can only be a good thing, no? For me, as always, the target will always be to better my own results, and therefore the symbol I'm looking for is always a 'solid' PR. Top tens and KOMs are always a nice bonus, but all I need to know is that I'm not getting significantly slower, and (fingers crossed) every now and then I can produce a personal best when I'm feeling 'on my best form'.

Pointless exercise because you can already access weekly, monthly and yearly leaderboards anyway. I suppose it'll give the weaker riders a chance to see some trophies next to their names.

Went out on an easy spin today and claimed half a ton of '2015 KOM', is there a way to turn this amazing new feature off?

Kind of agreed. I thought it was funny yesterday when I got home with 40 KOM to my name after heading out early, but the more I think about it, the more I'd just rather see how i compared to last time I rode it. I guess it will ease off in the not too distant future once segments get ridden more.

I managed a few yesterday, however I was doing 65 in my Seat at the time (stupid phone).

Personally from the point of view of off-road riding it's great, there's records that will otherwise probably stand forever at some of the trail centres I visit - they've added new bits, or drops/jump or in a lot of case reinforced the trail to stop people avoiding bends altogether to shave those tenths.

Ha I got 4 on a very windy ride on my old Holdsworth! Might have to go out again tomorrow and rack up a few more.

55 mile tempo ride this afternoon/evening - 119 KOM's/2nd/3rd's.........

I am a cycling god, gifted with pistons for legs on the climbs, nerves of steel on the descents, and an aero shaped body that cars draft on the flat......! wink

Perhaps Strava should highlight the best times set in the Nov-Feb period. Some sort of hard man award!

It would be handy if you could filter in/out the 2015 results, personally I am only really interested in bettering my own long standing times - other stuff is just noise really!

The 'ghosting' of the 2015 stuff helps, to be honest.

I found today that any 'all time' achievement will trump a 2015 achievement. I bagged a PR (all time) on a segment today (yes, it surprised me, too wink ), and the PR appears on the Segments Overview list, despite me also being '2015 KOM' (by virtue of being the only person to ride it this year so far). Yes, the ghosted achievements are a bit of 'noise' but it's easy enough to spot the all time stuff amongst the noise because it'll have a solid colour instead of just an outline.

As the year wears on, and more riders come out to play when (if ?) the sun starts shining, these 2015 achievements will become fewer, and further between, for us "weaker riders" and "Strava Queens" wink
