Hopefully a quick and simple question! Is there any reason why I would want a track bike (hire or buy) frame to be any larger / smaller relative to my road bike?

There are a few differences you may already be aware of

It will feel bigger as the bottom bracket is higher so the saddle is therefore higher off he ground but the same from the crank centreline

You would also want to keep the wheel base length as short as possible as this can help on steeper tracks help with stability in the banked corners

Crank tend to be shorter this again pushes the saddle up to compensate

Some people set their saddle hit up slightly to help with seated sprinting

Handle bars tend to be a little narrower

Thanks. I didn't really know any of that. The bike I'm looking at is in the sale and the ideal frame size according to their size guide is '58cm', which is for 6ft - 6ft 3 folk. It's also the only bike sold out! So the alternatives are the 56cm and 60cm frames that are for 5ft 10 - 6ft and 6ft 3 - 6ft 7 respectively. It appears to be a generic size guide for the manufacturer so whether it takes into account the needs of track riding V's road or cyclocross I can't be sure. Think I'll ask nicely and get two sizes in and see which, if either, suits.
