2014 CUBE Aim 26 hard tail at £299.....Bargain or Avoid??

Hi all

Looking to get back on a bike for my 12 mile return daily commute and a few canal path rides at the weekends

Was poking around the web and came across the Cube Aim 26 hard tail MTB on ChainReaction.com at just £299 delivered

Not sure of the brand so wondered if this would make a decent enough steed for the money?

Was looking around Halfords and the Cube looks as good quality as most of the Halfords stuff?

Cube make good bikes at a decent price - they are a well know brand. My first decent MTB was a Cube which my wife now rides. Don't go flinging it down any black runs and you'll be fine

Comes up as £359 for me. The pricing can be fluid

That's quite tempting as I want a hard tail MTBS to get to work. The shortest and safest route isn't tarmac so my road bike (which is a Cube) would probably see me changing inner tubes and/or tyres all the time.

Cube quality should be a notch above Carrera but check the spec.

26" wheels are becoming unfashionable As everyone moves to 650b and 700c / 29er but I wouldn't worry about parts availability for quite a few years.

V-brakes mark this out as really low budget these days.

Go outdoors' Calibre 2.2 for £335 after on screen discount still beats it easily.
Shimano 9 speed, Shimano hydraulic brakes and a Rockshox fork (albeit still coil not air)

Back to CRC for next up, Vitus Nucleus 275, adds an air fork for £380

IF you don't need/want a heavy fairly useless bouncy fork, the very well regarded Evans' own brand Pinnacle Ramin One 29er rigid is fabulous value also for £380. Perfect for a road/towpath/bridleway commute imo.

That Pinnacle Ramin One is an ugly bike isn't it!!?

Happy with the Cube, not bothered about fashionable bikes or spec, I'm not a hard core biker, but the Cube ticks all my boxes within my budget and looks quiet nice to me
