Both makes as far as I can tell are Italian?

Noticed the Deda Super Scuro as a club rider has one - lovely looking machine although apparently the seatpost is cut to measure and cannot be adjusted? Not sure about that. Kuota - I looked online at the Kharmo Evo - looks lovely.

Neither is Italian, they both source tubes from the far east. However Deda have their own carbon production facility and their tubes are used in a lot of bikes bearing other brand names, the Deda Scruo RS framset is also badged as a Ribble, Guerciotti and previously Bianchi... They supply tubes to other brands for manufacture too. The Deda in the link appears to have US sourced carbon, probably no better or no worse than the best stuff coming from the far east IMHO. If I was being really pedantic, I'd say Tenax/ToHo produce the fibres and its most likey made into tubes in the far east....

I dont know too many people who rate Kuota, a friend got one cheap but it doesnt look or feel particularly special. They have a reputation for being quite flexy at the back under heavy load/power

Why do so many people get excited about having an Itailan brand?

Not excited as such but just looking at something different to replace my 6 year old carbon bike. From what you have said I have discounted Kuota already. Since posting I have also heard from someone who has a Dedaccai Super Scuro, apparently there has been a fair few issues with it since ownership so I may avoid them aswell. Thanks!

Aren't you contradicting yourself there? you say Deda use asian tubing, but then say they have their own facility??

I was under the impression that dedacciai and guerciotti both only make their frames in italy.

regarding italian brands, people get excited because of their history, their style and the fact that they're italian. go and visit the country - or try living there and you'll understand ;-)

EDIT - Just found out that only the top of the range guerciotti are made in italy, the rest are assembled there. Scapin and Ciocc do still make all their frames in italy. (de rosa and colnago also produce top of the range frames in italy)

still, i'd rather a tawainese frame with italian branding than anything else!

I borrowed a friends Kuota Kharma a couple of years ago and have to say I was not very impressed. I rode circa 150-ish miles on it over a weekend and found it extremely flexy, to the point where it was noticeable on the climbs! The tubes are an odd triangular shape and it is possible to almost squeeze the sides of the top tube together, also the BB clicked (apparently it was not the BB but the fact it moved in the frame that made the noise), and the rear mech jumped on climbs - presumably because the frame was flexing.

The newer models may have addressed these issues but based on my experience I would not touch the brand, let alone the model!

I have a Deda K19 that rides fantastically well, but it's a Ti frame so not really apples for apples!!

Are you planning on getting taller?

ISP toppers normally have inserts to raise or lower a bit. Mine can be adjusted by up to 23mm. No problem with bike boxes either.
