I abandoned my attempt to locate a genuine Avocet computer, because although their website still seems to exist, there's no sign of product new or old. I last saw mine attached to my old bike which I lent, in 1995, to a girl I was deeply infatuated with.

Anyway, I digress. A trip to Center Parcs has revealed a fault with my 1991 Marin Pine Mountain - one of the bar grips has split and needs replacing. Given that the Deore DX mechs still shift perfectly on their original cables some 25 years since they were installed, the hubs run sweetly and the original tyres bear testament to my sheer laziness I can forgive this.

The depths of my memory suggested that I once fitted some lovely bar grips. They were ribbed, for my pleasure. I thought they were Onza, but a foray into an old catalogue on Retrobikes suggests that they weren't - they certainly weren't Porcipaws.

Anyway, to wrap this up: can anyone identify the missing link in the depths of my memory, or recommend some good grips? I do somewhere around 7 miles per year, so obviously this is an important purchase.

I remember the avocet I had a green one with Avocet in blue and grey buttons two round ones I think I remember.

Grips at that time ODI Mushroom from the BMX nostalgia everyone I rode round with had or wanted.
