London Freecycle

I see this weekend they are doing massive road closures in London and Surrey for the annual Freecycle event. On the Saturday, roads in central London will be closed so anyone can have a cycle on traffic free roads.

Did anyone do this last year? I see they want you to register but can you not just turn up and join in?

The next day is the 100 mile pro race from Stratford to Boxhill and back. I understand registering for that but just for a tootle around the West End devoid of cars, lorries and coaches....

That's the Sunday. The FreeCycle is on the Saturday and is a 10 mile loop in the centre open to all. No need to register, just turn up on the day and have a potter around admiring the sights.

Definitely not a race though. It's billed as a family event and there will be lots of young children, nervous cyclists and similar taking part. If you want to hammer around as fast as possible then look elsewhere.

that said i did for a short time have the KOM as i rode the route a few days before...

Haha, I wasn't going to bother, but I'll take the Garmin on Saturday then. Doing Freecycle as a rollout before the 100 and dragging the wife.

Depends what you want from it. Looks like a great day out for families, terrible day out for strava-nauts. I'd be popping along with my 5yr old if she wasn't currently in Spain.
