Today was the first ride on spd-sl's, and almsot came a cropper, but not for the reason you think! It dadn't happen becuase I couldn't unclip in time, it was becuase I couldn't clip in!

Out on the a little jaunt, to see if I had the cleats etc right and as I was feeling generally anti- social started looking for a new start to alonger route as I have to build up my mileage per ride. As I came up to a rather busy T junction on a country road, I unlipped my left foot, and as there was a stram of traffic I took the opporunity to drink and almost fell over as I hadn't noticed the adverse camber!

The traffic flow vanished and I pushed off with the still clipped in right foot, got 1/2 way across the road, and went to clip in with the left. Foot found the pedal, and I pushed down to accelerate way, only to get dumped heavily back in the saddle, narrowly missing impailing my ass on the saddle tip . Whilst the foot had found the pedal, I had not only missed the locator hole, but had the wrong side of the pedal! Que my foot shooting forwards and then out left as plastic on plastic has next to no grip, causing quite some weight redistrobution causing and a dramatic change of direction towards a 6 foot deep ditch!

Seems chnaging from spd's to spd-sl's takes some though it seems.

Got home to find out, whilst I'm still an unfit fat git, I'm only 20kms off last years complete total! bounce Now I have to keep it up, I've a stone to loose and 10mph average to gain.
