Pedals/shoes

Right then, my first road bike is due this week so just looking at pedals/shoes as it's all new to me.

Got my eye on Shimano PD-R540 SPD SL pedals and DHB cycling shoes from wiggle.

Anybody got any recommendations or even use the above?

I have the 540 pedals. They're great - double sided makes it much easier to get in.

They're only compatible with two-bolt cleats though - make sure those shoes are.

Pretty sure that all road pedals (including SPD SL) are one-sided with the exception of Speedplays?

Don't you be confusing the R540 pedals with the M540 pedals now.

I have those pedals, and they're good, but there is too much float for my taste, so I need some different cleats to sort that out.

On the show front I'd go for some with ratcheting straps - I got some fairly basic Shimano ones but they're comfy and easy to get to fit well. If you just have velcro straps it's harder to get the tightness just right.
