Road wheels. Too too many options

Hi All,

I think I need new wheels:

I recently performed a mis-timed curb climbing bunny-hop, denting (but not breaking) my rear wheel.
I've entered a triathlon late sept.
I need to shave time of my cycle leg or I'm not going to make my target time.

There are just far far too many options out there and I'm paralysed by indecision.

What should I look at for £2-300 (can go a little more if they're awesome)?
-I'd really like something aero (50mm or so), but I can't seem to see anything <£500 that may do it.
-Ideally ally breaking surface as I'd use them day-to-day commuting
-10 speed shimano
-I'm 76Kg and not Okgo
-I'm using 25mm clincher tyres at the moment
-Currently got Fulcrum racing 5's, but they've got maybe 10K Km on them and I figure whilst I could just replace the rear, the front could probably be replaced too (worn breaking surface)
-That said, I could just buy a single racing 5 for the rear if I'm not going to see any improvement at this price level
-Bike is a BMC SLX01 FWIW

If anyone has been around this loop recently and has any great ideas, I'd really appreciate any help. Minefield out there. Far too many options & I don't want to waste money!

Shimano R501 from PX, 80 quid, job jobbed.

Save your money for nice rubber and latex tubes.

If you want aero, look to planet X at that price point (clinchers, not tubulars). Frankly they'll make very little difference to your bike leg time - seconds, just maybe minutes.

IMHO avoid R500/501's like the plague - sorry to disagree with Barchettaman. You don't need anything special, but they're pretty woeful, easily worse than the fulcrums. Hubs/bearings are made of cheese, and I'm usually pretty easy on equipment.

Recently married so I'm broke which is why I don't have a set of these.

Planet-X 45mm clinchers.

Nice wheels may help to motivate you to ride more often, which will shave more time off your bike leg than any amount of bling.

Kinetic One are local to me and I have a pair of Aerolites from them. 12 months and 2000mi+ later and I'm still happy. They're lighter and more aero than my OE wheels and a heck of a lot more robust. Having successfully sought out, and ridden through every pothole in the Southwest, they're still true. Plus, they look decent enough for the money.

Me and a friend both recently bought the 50mm U 23mm wheels with ceramic hubs and CXray spokes. They have a high temp basalt impregnated brake track and weigh in at a smidge over 1400g. They are superb.

Delivered for just under £500 if you don't get hit by tax, add £32 for George Osborne if you do get hit.
