Just over a year ago I bought my first bike after nearly 30 years of not riding one. I was 46 and overweight and needed to do something about it. Had some good advice on here and went for a Boardman hybrid as most of my riding would include a mix of road and cycle paths. After a few early rides where everything ached and was sore I eventually began to love it and found myself looking forward to getting out on a weekend. Even put a shower in at work so I could cycle in occasionally (which for a petrol head who used a DB9 as a daily was a massive shift in attitude). Slowly I began putting in more and more rides and found any excuse to get out, even if it was only a quick 40 mins before dinner.

Well yesterday I did something I'd read about on here but never thought I would be obsessive/committed enough to do.....I went and bought a second bike, a road bike. Not a replacement, a second one for just using on the roads! So, two bikes depending on where I'm riding! I went for a Triban 500 (well two actually as my o/h took up riding at the same time as me) which is a cracking spec for the money. Still getting used to drop bars again, especially using the brakes, and the tyres seem a little hard on our appalling roads. Rode from Chesterfield to Baslow and back yesterday, which is not far but some long long long steep hills and couldn't believe how much difference it made having a lighter bike with slick tyres
.
Anyway no going back, just squeezing in to my Lycra and am off out for a longer road ride first thing this morning, can't wait. I never thought I'd type those words!

Well done o.p, addictive isn't it.

I've followed the same path, hybrid then joined by a roadbike.

Now I commute 6 days a week and cycle on my day off too, it's a slippery slope!

Something I'm looking into at the moment. Currently got a mtb with road(ish) tyres, not quite a hybrid.

Been looking around and the decathlon bikes are cracking value for the quality and spec, really difficult to beat.

They actually keep in stock the larger sizes too.

Well done clap You'll now find excuses to take a longer commute home to get more miles, then you'll get the Strava ap to monitor your rides, then you notice you start to beat your PR's... Then you come 6th on a segment, then you push a bit harder and come 3rd... It's a slippery slope laugh
