Gel Bar Pads

I'm getting a bit of gip from my ulnar nerve, so i thought a bit of extra padding wouldn't go a miss.

So has anyone fitted some, i'm going to replace the cables anyway and have tape to go on so was looking at specialized bar phat or similar.

Try using non padded gloves/mitts before fitting gel padding in the bars

A little OT but I found doing rowing at the gym worked a treat when I had this. For about 3 months I went through all sorts of physio trying to rectify the problem and then cured it in a couple of days by rowing.

Whilst I'm not getting any pains in my hands as such, I quite quickly get pins and needles in my fingers. I'm not even leaning far forwards (flat bar bike) and I use Specialized BG gloves too. Any recommendations? My bar grips are rather thin - I expect I could benefit from some fatter types but not sure whether to go for round/fat or those really wide/flared type.

I'd also prefer lock-ons. Less hassle all round.

I use gel inserts on my Audax bike, super comfy, would recommend. If you are getting tingling feling I found my bars were too wide. Fitted narrower bars and problem gone.

I have the Phat bar tape and pads. I really like the extra volume in the grip and the dampening effect.

That's extremely interesting. Mine is a narrow wheeled hybrid so definitely doesn't need wide bars. In fact I have already taken an inch off each end already but it could lose another inch from each without upsetting it.

Watchman - on my mountain bike which is a GT I drive I have fitted some specialized BG grips which are wider and reduce the pressure on your palms. I found this solved pins and needless in my hand on that bike. They were very reasonable to.

Well, they've turned up and I have to say they are THE most incredible things I've ever tried on a bike. So good, I'm buying another pair for my hardtail.

The only negative is that I can't fit my rear view mirror in the bar end any more because the grip are closed at the ends.

I'd say they are on a par with SPDs. Such a revelation. Can't understand why all bikes aren't fitted with them as standard.
